Once Caldas through to next round in Copa Libertadores

Once Caldas are through to the next round in the Copa Libertadores following a 1-0 win over Nacional of Paraguay on Thursday.

After Sao Paulo’s goalless draw at Monterrey a day earlier, all Once Caldas needed to advance was a win.

Only 14 minutes had passed at Palogrande stadium in Manizales when John Jairo Valencia scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

As such, the Colombian side surpasses Sao Paulo to jump into first place in Group 2. With third-placed Monterrey at five points and just one game to go, Once are at least certain of second place.

On April 21, the Manizales outfit travel to Sao Paulo where the top two teams in this group will battle for the number one spot.
