Once Caldas off to a good start in Copa Mustang II

Defending champions Once Caldas are the first team to earn three points
in the current edition of Colombia’s top football competition, beating
Pereira 1-0 on Saturday.

The only goal of the match, played at Manizales’ Palogrande stadium, came after 42 minutes and was scored by Dayron Perez.

Pereira had been struggling with the rules of the game as the visiting side received no less than six yellow cards and one red, with Julian Barahona sent off on 65 minutes.

In Saturday’s only other game, Cucuta Deportivo and America de Cali held each other to a 1-1 draw.

America thought to be heading for a win thanks to Paulo Arango’s goal in the 13th minute, but one minute had been played in injury time when Cesar Arias allowed the home crowd to welcome the equaliser.

On Sunday, twelve more teams will begin their Copa Mustang II campaign.
