Once Caldas are close to a spot in the final of this year’s Copa
Mustang I following a 2-0 win over Deportes Tolima. Chicó kept hope
alive with a 1-0 victory against La Equidad.
Tolima travelled to Manizales with the idea that a win or even a draw would leave the Ibagué outfit with a good chance of getting to the final, but things didn’t go quite as planned for the away side.
After a goalless first half, it was Johan Fano to put Once Caldas in the lead in the 62nd minute. Seven minutes later, Jorge Casanova made it 2-0 which would also be the final result.
Tolima star Rodrigo Marangoni was sent off in the 81st minute and misses his side’s next match.
Chicó needed only one goal to make a difference with La Equidad in Boyacá’s capital city, Tunja. With just five minutes left at Estadio La Independencia, Miguel Canea beat keeper Solís for 1-0 and three crucial points.
Technically, all four sides in this group still have a chance of advancing to the final but some are in much better positions than others. With seven points from four games, Once Caldas are the principal candidate. Tolima and Chicó follow with five points each and La Equidad are at the bottom with just three points.
