Nule directors accept embezzlement charge

The three directors of the Nule Group accepted on Friday charges of embezzlement, but pleaded not-guilty to all other charges in the Bogota public works corruption scandal.

Brothers Manuel and Miguel and their cousin Guido Nule pleaded guilty to the most serious charge of embezzlement by appropriation, but pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, falsifying a private contract, fraud and bribery.

The charges relate to the mismanagement by the Mayor of Bogota’s office that gave the millionaires resources to construct works for the linkage of public transport and other works of the road network in Bogota.

The criminal code says embezzlement by appropriation is punishable by 8 – 22 years prison, but by pleading guilty, the men will benefit from reduced sentences.

Also wrapped up in the scandal are Moreno brothers, Senator Ivan and Mayor of Bogota Samuel, for allegedly making the Nule Group pay a 6% commission in order to receive public works contracts.

The Bogota ex-comptroller Miguel Angel Moralesrussi and former director of the Urban Development Institute (IDU) Liliana Pardo have also been accused of corrupt dealings.
