Nicaragua re-establishes diplomatic ties with Colombia

In a letter to Colombian ambassador Antonio Gonzalez, Santos said the re-establishment of diplomatic relations was ordered by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, after an accord with Colombia during the 20th Rio Group Summit meeting held in Dominican Republic on Friday. At the summit, Ortega agreed with his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe to reestablish diplomatic relations suspended by Nicaragua on Thursday. Santos met with Gonzalez on Wednesday at the installations of Nicaragua’s Foreign Ministry in Managua, the Central American country’s capital. “The relations have been re-established with the letter I just handed over (to Gonzalez) and it is based on the talks carried out by Ortega and Uribe,” said Santos.
