Nacional draw at home in Libertadores (video)

Colombia’s Atletico Nacional drew 2-2 at home to Argentinian outfit Godoy Cruz in the Copa Libertadores Thursday.

While a third-minute goal from Luis Mosquera got the Medellin team off to a flying start, two goals in ten minutes midway through the first half from Godoy defender Jorge Curbelo and striker Facundo Castillon put the Argentines ahead at the break.

Mosquera netted a 62nd minute penalty to bring the sides level and while Godoy lost defender Leonardo Sigali to a late red card, Godoy held on for the draw.

The result came two weeks after Nacional threw away a late lead to draw 4-4- against the same team in Argentina, but Nacional still maintain their place at the top of the table, with eight points from four games. Godoy sit in second, with five points, but third-placed Universidad de Chile will go above them and within one point of Nacional if they beat Uruguay’s Peñarol in their fourth game of Group 8.

While Nacional’s Libertadores dreams are still alive, Colombian champions Junior de Barranquilla saw theirs all but disappear with Tuesday’s 2-1 loss away to Bolivian champions Bolivar. The result came two weeks after the Bolivians had earned a shock 1-0 victory in Barranquilla and leaves the Colombians on one point after four games, six points adrift of the two top teams in Group 3 with only two games to play.
