Nineteen Bogota-stationed soldiers were put in quarantine after a mysterious infection killed a soldier of the presidential guard, newspaper El Tiempo reported Wednesday.
The soldier died Saturday of a lung infection caused by an undetermined type of flu, a doctor at the Military Hospital in Bogota told the newspaper.
According to the medic, the quarantined soldiers who shared a dorm with the deceased presidential guard show no suspicious symptoms and are in good health, but are kept in quarantine just to be safe.
The doctor denied the lethal infection that killed the soldier is swine flu, which killed hundreds in Colombia over the past few years.
Army commanders in Bogota were instructed to be on alert for possible flu symptoms among soldiers.
