Murcia plans to run for Senate

DMG director David Murcia announced his intention to run as a candidate for the Colombian Senate in 2010.

Murcia’s lawyer, Gustavo Salazar Pineda, said that everything was in place for Murcia to begin his campaign for the Senate. He will run as a candidate for the Apertura Liberal party.

Murcia is on trial for illicit enrichment and laundering money for drug lords.

Following the hearing of his trial in Bogota Wednesday, he announced he plans to open a free restaurant for the poor and to provide ‘post pay’ health care.

Murcia requested his trial be canceled or expedited because “the judge takes the case as he wants it to be”

State prosecutor Luz Ángela Bahamón said the case has been heard according to the law and she requested that the judge continue with the hearing.

The trial will resume May 28.
