3 acts of violence leave 4 dead in Bogota

Four people were killed in three separate acts of violence on Monday night in various Bogota barrios, Colombian media reported.

The first event occurred around 9PM Monday, when a middle-aged man died after unknown perpetrators apparently launched an explosive device at a supermarket in Bogota’s southeast barrio Chicala.

Authorities working to establish responsibility for the act reported that they found what appeared to be a grenade in the dead man’s possession, though they have not yet established clear responsibility.

Manuel Villamizar, director of the Emergency Regulatory Center, said of the incident that, “There are no more injured. They are investigating the events that occurred, and trying to confirm whether it was a grenade that he carried or if it was thrown from another location.”

A second incident took place at around 11PM in the Igualdad barrio, when three homeless people taking shelter under a bridge were shot at by members of a passing vehicle, killing a young man and a young woman. The third person was badly injured and taken to a clinic for treatment.

In the final case, which occurred at approximately midnight, a man was murdered in the Santa Rita barrio by passengers on a motorcycle.
