More measures to fight Medellín insecurity

Medellín authorities Wednesday further increased security measures to halt
increasing gang violence. Minors are not allowed outside after 11PM,
motorcycles are not allowed passengers and no one is allowed to carry weapons.

The extra measures — in force until July 21 — were taken during a special security council of authorities of the capital of Antioquia and surrounding municipalities like Bello and Itagui.

The capital of Antioquia has been plagued with an increase of homicides for months. Earlier attempts to curb the violence seemed to have had little to no impact. Authorities blame frictions between paramilitary, drug gangs and neighborhood militias for the soaring murder rate.
