Monopoly Colombia: Traditional board game with a twist

The world’s best-selling board game will offer a tour of the most famous tourist destinations in Colombia, in a special Colombian version of Monopoly to be released in the second half of this year, newspaper El Colombiano reported Friday.

After 75 years of board-game fame, Monopoly is estimated to have been played by over a billion people worldwide, with 250 millions boards sold and editions in braille, chocolate and even solid gold.

Now, as the game giant Hasbro opens up Colombian offices this year, the company will issue a special edition to commemorate the event.

Through April 9, Monopoly fans can go online to www.monopolycolombia.com to select the 22 sites that are to appear on the board. Contenders include the Amazon River, the coffee region, Medellin’s metro system, Tayrona National Park and Barranquilla’s Carnival, among others.

By April 22, Hasbro will have selected the top picks and the game board production will commence, making Monopoly’s Colombia edition ready by the second half of the year.
