‘Mono Jojoy’ not dying: Police

Senior FARC member ‘Mono Jojoy’ is not dying, Colombia’s National Police Director Oscar Naranjo said Thursday.

Miami-based newspaper El Nuevo Herald reported a week ago that the prominent member of the FARC secretariat was in agony and dying of his diabetes.

According to Naranjo, the FARC leader is seriously ill, but not dying. “Mono Jojoy is in a situation that he is being harrassed by the troops and the Colombian authorities, but he is not terminally ill,” the Police Director told Caracol Radio.

Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos earlier had also denied the reports.

Jorge ‘Mono Jojoy’ Briceño is one of the seven members of the FARC’s secretariat and allegedly responsible for the organization’s hostages. The U.S. State Department offers a US5 million reward for his capture.
