Model-turned-narco repeats innocent plea

Angie Sanclemente – a former lingerie model suspected of leading a cocaine trafficking ring – testified in court for the second time on Tuesday, and again pleaded innocent, reports Colombian media.

During the follow-up of last Thursday’s trial the court was presented with supposed recordings of Sanclemente, which implicated her in the crime for which she has been accused.

The woman’s lawyer, Guillermo Tiscornia, argued that the voice on the tapes “did not resemble” that of his client, however, and said that the case against her “had no evidence.”

Tiscornia went on to again call for Sanclemente’s “immediate release,” so that she may complete the trial “in freedom.”

Sanclemente, who was arrested in Buenos Aires last month, has denied all accusations that she was the mastermind behind an international drug trafficking operation that used what she called “beautiful, unsuspicious” models and beauty queens to transport cocaine from Argentina to Western Europe.

The jury hearing the trial against Sanclemente is expected to reach a verdict by the end of next week.
