Ex-Miss Venezuela candidate accused of working with Colombian drug lord

Authorities on Thursday accused a former Miss Venezuela candidate of having collaborated with the recently captured “El Loco Barrera”, one of Colombia’s most powerful drug lords.

Venezuelan model Alexandra Fernandez is being detained, along with four others, at the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN) on charges of collaborating with notorious Colombian drug lord Daniel “El Loco Barrera,” who was arrested in Venezuela in September.

A statement by Venezuelan prosecutors explained that Fernandez is being investigated, “for alleged…money laundering and conspiracy.”

Besides Fernandez, authorities arrested two Colombian men and two Venezuelan women. “It is important to note that these people have served as collaborators of Daniel Barrera…they made hotel bookings with their names, so that the drug trafficker could evade authorities,” claimed a prosecution spokesperson.

El Loco Barrera is considered Colombia’s most important drug lord of the past decade.

“He spent more than 20 years dedicated to do wrong with Colombia and the world,” according to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, who announced his capture on September 18.
