Miss Colombia mugged in Bogota

The current Miss Colombia Paulina Vega was violently robbed while driving through one of Bogota’s leafiest suburbs Thursday, according to local media.

Assailants smashed the windows of the 21 year-old beauty queen’s car when she passed by the intersection at calle 94 and carrera 13. The men threatened Vega and her friend with knives until they handed over their cellphones, according to Colombia’s Semana news magazine.

Bogota police are now investigating the incident with the aid of security cameras from the area.

According to authorities, in 2013 there were 44,700 cellphones stolen in Colombia. That is equivalent to 3,725 incidents each month, 122 each day, and five every hour.
