Millions of drug ring dollars seized around Medellin

Police seized 30 properties and assets worth up to $30 million in the raiding of a drug ring in the region of the Colombian city of Medellin.

Colombian security forces who carried out the operation, took over an array of properties in the Antioquian region allegedly owned by the families of the Castaño brothers, who formed paramilitary organization AUC late last century.

Eight drug traffickers, captured last week, are expected to stand trial for organizing the illegal transportation of cocaine to Africa as well as charges of money-laundering and conspiracy.

Four canadian helicopters, worth over $1 million each, were confiscated from the properties. Cottages and villas were also seized in the heart of the Colombian coffee-growing region.

Authorities claim to be continuing their infiltration and dissolution of the ring.
