Miami to send trade mission to Colombia

The trade division of Miami-Dade county is to send a business development mission to Bogota May 21 through 24 to strengthen bilateral ties between the state of Florida and Colombia.

The mission seeks to make the most of the recently approved U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion (TPA) free trade agreement.

The delegation is being led by Commissioner Bruno A. Barreiro, county chairman of the International Trade Advisory Board.

As part of the TPA, over eighty percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial products to Colombia will become duty free.

The TPA will also provide immediate duty-free access to key Florida export sectors such as agriculture and construction equipment, aircraft manufacture, auto parts, fertilizers and agro-chemicals, IT equipment, and medical and scientific equipment. In addition, the TPA will provide access to Colombia’s $166 billion service market.

Colombia is South Florida’s second-largest trading partner with total bilateral trade worth $8.2 billion in 2011.
