Heavy metal fans from all over the world are expected to attend the fifth annual Grita Rock festival in Manizales, in the central Colombian department of Caldas.
Fresh from the recent Rock al Parque and Ibague Ciudad Rock festivals, the Colombian metal crowd will head to the “city of open doors” for the event, which lasts from Friday, August 13 to Sunday, August 15.
As in previous years, rough mosh pits will form in front of stages in the Ecoparque Los Yarumos. Fans will be able to listen to international outfits such as the gravelly-voiced Los Angelos black metal group SOTHIS and Californian street punk group Total Chaos, or Colombian groups like gothic metal band Tenebrarum, and Leishmaniasis – whose brutal death metal tracks include “Whore Smashing Hammer” and “Decomposed Skin Graft.”
But the festival will not exclusively offer the loud noise and growled lyrics of hard metal and the brisk tones of punk rock. The event will also showcase the slower pace rhythms of reggae by Colombian bands such as Locomboo, Voodoo SoulJahs, and Dub Killer Combo.
The Manizales Grita Rock Festival is considered to be the third biggest rock festival in the Andean nation and the third biggest yearly event in Manizales, behind the “Feria de Manizales” and the International Theatre Festival.
Entrance to the event is free.
