During the sixth International Tango Festival, Argentina’s National Institute of Tourism Promotion (Inprotur) gifted Medellin a monument in recognition of the city’s effort to promote tango culture.
The monument, a represention of a type of accordion called ‘bandoneon’ which has become a tango symbol, was designed by Alejandro Coria and Estela Trebino and was the winner of the Urban Art Tribute to Tango Contest.
Inprotur dontates these monuments through Argentine Embassies to countries that promote tango and its culture throughout the world. There are monuments in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Tarbes, France; New York, United States and San Pablo, Brazil.
The foundation stone was placed yesterday morning in the Parque Biblioteca Guayabal Manuel Mejia Vallejo located in the center of the city.
