Medellin provides surgical assistance to 15 children

The Medellin municipal government will initiate this year’s free surgery program by providing surgical assistance to 15 young boys and girls in the city, according to a press release from the mayor’s office.

The surgeries, provided to children with hand and foot dexterity problems, are taking place over the course of Thursday and Friday in the Clinica Noel, as part of the city government’s program “Solidaria y Buen Comienzo” (Solidarity and a Good Start).

The program seeks to “promote the integral, diverse, and inclusive development of girls and boys from birth until 6 years of age” through protecting fundamental rights such as education, health, and nutrition.

The free surgeries are the result of a collaborative effort between the municipal government, Clinica Noel, and various other city health programs. The 15 children and their families will receive all services cost-free, including transportation, food, and escort.

During the course of the year, the city government will carry out various surgery days to benefit the most vulnerable children in the city.

On April 20, the second round of surgeries will take place for children experiencing a range of eye problems.
