Medellin Planetarium re-opens its doors

Medellin’s Planetarium was re-inaugurated Thursday and opened to the public after about a year of having closed its doors for a renovation that cost over $4 million.

One of the most impressive renovations is the dome which has been transformed with modern digital screens and sound systems that will allow 111 viewers at a time to travel to any part of the planet in real time.

On the first floor, visitors will now find a café, a conference room, a gift shop, an auditorium and a specialized science library, that will all be free to access.

The other two floors are interactive and experimental spaces where visitors will learn more about astronomy and earth sciences.

The Planetarium will also offer talks and conferences throughout the year beginning in September.

Originally, the re-inauguration was supposed to take place June 27 but due to other commitments, the Mayor would not be able to attend.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the new from Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 5:30 pm and Sundays and holidays 10:00 am – 6:30 pm.
