Medellin is Latin America’s 3rd best tourist destination: Poll

Colombia’s second city Medellin is the third best tourism destination in Latin America, according to travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler on Tuesday.

The Conde Nast Traveler poll, which surveyed the opinions of 46,000 readers, ranked Medellin as a prime recommendation for those planning their next trip, just behind Buenos Aires in Argentina, and Cuzco in Peru.

The luxury travel publication cited Medellin’s cultural and culinary offerings, as well as the hospitality and friendliness of the locals.

The favorable polling follows other recent accolades for the Antioquian capital. On October 19, the Urban Land Institute dubbed Medellin one of the top three most innovative cities in the world.

Despite intermittent gun battles and an unenviable homicide rate, Medellin has received praise for its metro system, its reduced carbon emissions, as well as its investment in public libraries and cultural centers.
