Colombia’s second largest city, Medellin, will celebrate the “Fiesta de la Musica” on Saturday, the 12th edition of the city’s biggest music event.

The Fiesta de la Musica brings to Medellin and neighboring Envigado 49 bands for all musical tastes: punk, electronic, pop, rock, jazz, metal, reggae, and many more.

The inauguration of the event will take place in the Alianza Francesa Theater on Friday at 7PM. The concert, performed by Los Yetis and Juan Nicolas Estela, will be dedicated to fathers as Colombia celebrates Father’s Day on Sunday — after the holiday was pushed-back a week for Colombia’s presidential elections.

The Fiesta de la Musica will take over the city on Saturday and entertain people with concerts in multiple locations all across the city including metro stations, parks, theaters, churches, and shopping centers, according to the event’s website.

Festivities begin at 2PM and will continue through the last concert at approximately 2AM in Poblado Park.

“Through this joint event, the public and private organizers demonstrate their commitment to fostering a better understanding of artistic realities of their countries and to develop intercultural relations,” the event’s brochure informs.

Some of the more interesting aspects of this world-wide music event are that all concerts are free of charge, and they are held in non-conventional places. In doing so, the event aims at promoting the art of music of different genres and different levels of professionalism.
