Medellin couple living in sewer claims life is ‘better than the president’s’

A couple living in a Medellin sewer have said that they are comfortable, carefree and living a life that is “better than the president’s.”

Life can certainly be a struggle. However, as one family who has been living in a sewer for the last 22 years is happy to attest to, it’s not all doom and gloom.

Colombian radio station La FM reports that 62 year old Miguel Restrepo and his wife Maria Garcia have lived in the same sewer for the last 22 years.

While the couple does acknowledge that the rain can be a problem, they have assured the interviewer that they are living “better than the president”, due to the “calm” and “carefree” atmosphere in which they live.

Miguel and Maria’s dwelling is furnished with a kitchen, television, bed, chair and fan.

The couple also lives with their loveable dog, “Blackie.”
