Medellin councilor stabbed in country home

Councilor Bernardo Alejandro Guerra Hoyos was allegedly stabbed on the grounds of his country home in Santiago de Tolu, in the Sucre department. According to the councillor’s brother, his condition is stable, despite the attack having punctured a lung.

Local police have detained a man named Gabriel Jaime Velez, but have yet to establish the motive behind the attack. Jaime is apparently known to the Guerra family and reportedly suffers from psychological problems.

Guerro’s doctors have yet to authorize a transfer to Medellin and the councilor is to remain under observation for the time being.
