Medellin cops suspended after suspicious death of 2 women

Medellin‘s police department suspended three police officers who are investigated for the mysterious death of two women.

The two women disappeared on December 26 after the car they and the policemen were traveling in fell into the Medellin river. The three policemen left the incident unharmed, but one of the women was found dead downstream Tuesday, while the other is still missing.

According to Medellin police commissioner Orlando Paez, the department wants to know why the officials didn’t help the women when the accident occurred and why the five were driving in a car carrying false license plates.

Paez said at a press conference that the three cops had delivered conflicting statements on the incident.

The policemen face criminal charges for gross negligence or involuntary manslaughter.
