Medellin cops investigated for massacre of 5

The Medellin police department has opened a disciplinary investigation against a number of policemen who are suspected of involvement in the massacre of two men and three women in the north-east of the city on Friday.

Medellin police commissioner Yesid Vasquez, the investigation was called because the two male victims of the massacre had been arrested and released from a nearby police station half an hour before they and the three women who had picked them up were assassinated in a taxi in the north-east of the city. The attack took place at less than a two yeards of the police station.

Police suspect the assassins were tipped off about the victims’ release.

According to several media, the two murdered men belonged to a gang called “Calle del Pecado,” which is in conflict with the “Bulevar” gang. Both gangs reportedly are active in the Santander neighborhood where the massacre took place.

The Calle del Pecado gang is suspected of the murder of a police officer in the same neighborhood last year.
