Medellin close to Colombian soccer title

Independiente Medellin are a big step closer to winning the 2009 Copa Mustang II following a 0-1 win over Atletico Huila in the first leg of the final. Jackson Martinez scored the only goal of the match

Medellin began the match with great pressure on Huila’s goal but the home side slowly gained control and the number of opportunities became smaller.

Huila meanwhile, had difficulties up front as its forwards lacked pace and precision when chances occurred near Medellin’s goal.

After a mostly equal second half, it was Medellin which broke the deadlock in the 84th minute as Jackson Martinez did well to chip the ball over the keeper for 0-1.

The second and deciding leg of the final will be played in Medellin this coming Sunday.
