‘Mastermind’ of failed Bogota bomb attack killed in Venezuela

 

The alleged mastermind of a failed bomb attack in Bogota earlier this year has been shot and killed by police in Venezuela, Colombia’s defense minister announced Wednesday.

The alleged FARC guerrilla, known as “El Cojo,” was found in a hotel in the state of Zulia where he was confronted by Venezuelan police. After a gun fight that resulted in the guerrilla and a police officers’ injuries, he was transferred to a hospital where he died shortly after.

“El Cojo” had been charged in Colombia with among others conspiracy, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms after his May 15 bomb attempt on a Bogota Police station.

According to Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon, the alleged bomber fled to Venezuela after police found the car bomb, located near the downtown area of Colombia’s capital.
