A man hired by two Colombian priests to murder them after one was diagnosed with AIDS faces at least 25 years in jail, reported newspaper El Espectador Tuesday.
Gildardo Alberto Peñate, alias “Gavilan,” has admitted carrying out last year’s shooting of Rafael Reatiga and Richard Píffano Laguado in Bogota, which it was later revealed had been arranged by the men themselves.
The pair reportedly tried to jump off a cliff, but could not bring themselves to go through with it — so decided to hire a hitman.
A woman had also come forward to claim Reatiga had sexually abused her husband, said the prosecutor in charge of the case.
