A man was arrested in Bogota after 12 years on the run for beating and biting a 2-year-old girl to death in 1998.
Carlos Julio Giraldo Figueredo was arrested Wednesday in a Bogota mall, despite presenting false identification to authorities.
The man was originally arrested in 1998 after neighbors heard cries coming from the apartment where Giraldo was staying with the child, but he escaped from custody while being transferred to prison.
Giraldo was sentenced to 25 years jail in absentia by the 35th Criminal Circuit Court.
