Macondo awards celebrate Colombian cinema

The Macondo awards are ready to go Thursday to recognize the best in Colombian cinema.

The second ever Macondo awards will begin at 8:00PM Thursday at the Fabio Lozano auditorium in Bogota, kicking off with a red carpet reminiscent of the glamorous settings of Hollywood award shows.

The presentation of award winners in 16 cinematic categories will follow, coupled with music and entertainment. Adriana Arango and Fernando Solorzano will guide the proceedings as the masters of ceremonies.

The nominees in 14 of the 16 categories were chosen by members of the Colombian Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, which is comprised of 300 professionals in the field. To be eligible, the films must have premiered in commercial theaters between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2012.

The Academy was created in 2009 to embrace and connect filmmakers, directors, producers, writers and technicians of Colombian film in a similar fashion to Hollywood’s Oscar awards, claimed the Academy.

The event will be broadcast live on Terra TV. For a full list of nominees and more information click here.
