Allies of Alvaro Uribe have leapt to the ex-president’s defense after his claim’s that he had been the victim of a conspiracy of “criminal vengeance.”
Within hours of Uribe’s testimony to the Accusations Commission investigating the DAS wiretapping scandal, one of his lawyers, Jaime Granados, spoke to La Fm Radio and demanded an investigation to “get to the bottom” of Uribe’s claims of persecution.
Granados drew attention to Urbe’s submission of evidence in which ex-president of the Supreme Court Yesid Ramirez allegedly proposed “toppling” Uribe, which Granados called “unprecedented in Colombia’s history.”
The lawyer also there had been “not a single wiretap” apart from those investigating former Polo Democratico presidential candidate Carlo Gaviria Diaz, which, according to Granados, were routine for people with “strong security agendas.”
