Lawyer arrested for bribing client to frame Supreme Court judges

Colombian police on Monday arrested a former defense lawyer for bribing his client, an ex-paramilitary leader, to frame Colombian Supreme Court judges.

Gonzalez was found guilty and sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison in January 2012 for bribing Tasmania to faslely testify that Supreme Court Judges Ivan Velasquez and Luz Adriana Camargo bribed him to accuse then-President Alvaro Uribe of conspiracy to commit murder.

This verdict was appealed, but subsequently upheld on March 1 2013, and a warrant was issued for Gonzaelez’s arrest. At the time of the arrest Gonzalez was allegedly carrying false identification.

However, Tamania later renounced this testimony, instead claiming that Gonzalez had pressured him into making the accusations, which led to the lawyer’s original sentence.
