Late night shopping for Mother’s Day in Bogota

To celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, over 6000 shops in Bogota will be open until midnight on Saturday for people rushing to buy that last-minute gift, or moms treating themselves to a late-night shopping spree.

Under an initiative called “Bogota Despierta” (Bogota wakes up) undertaken by the National Commerce Federation, Fenalco, Bogota shops will stay open late in order to satisfy the extra demand, reports el Nuevo Siglo.

Fenalco says that late night shopping on Mother’s Day is particularly appropriate, as many working mothers can’t make it to the shops before nightfall. Bogota Despierta will also include live concerts and various entertainments laid on by the city’s shopping malls.

Transmilenio, Bogota’s public transport system, will extend service until midnight in order to help shoppers get around, says the mayor’s office.
