Junior player was under drug influence, says victim’s uncle

The Atletico Junior player that shot and killed a fan on the weekend,
was supposedly under influence of drugs. This was said by the fan’s
uncle in an interview with Caracol Radio.

Elias Escamilla, uncle of victim Israel Cantillo Escamilla, told the interviewer that “the guy [Javier Florez] was under influence of marijuana, the car smelt of marijuana and tests performed by authorities confirmed it”.

The supporter and several more fans had been criticizing the player’s performance during the Copa Mustang I final with Once Caldas late last month. Junior lost the tie 5-2 on aggregate.

Prior to the initial incident, Florez supposedly went home to get his revolver, after which he returned to shoot the fan. Although the footballer got away from the scene, he later turned himself in to authorities.

The first hearing in this case is expected to take place early this week.
