Santos to travel to New York for UN speech

Colombia`s President Juan Manuel Santos is set to travel to New York to speak before the United Nations General Assembly to present Colombia`s advances in security issues.

On Friday, Santos’ is scheduled to shed light on Colombia`s stance over issues such as drug trafficking, human rights and terrorism.

The Colombian President announced on Saturday that Colombia will be able to show the world its advances in security issues which resulted in social progress and economic development.

Santos hopes his attendance in New York will lead to improved relations with other countries.

“There in New York we will take advantage as is usual in these types of meetings to have … bilateral meetings with many heads of state,” the president said.

It’s the first time Santos attends a U.N. meeting after his August 7 inauguration.
