Jailed Bogota mayor spends 1st night in luxury cell

The suspended mayor of Bogota, sent to jail on corruption allegations Friday, spent his first night in his 12 by 12 foot luxury suite.

Colombia’s prison authority released photos of disgraced Mayor Samuel Moreno’s “cell,” showing a carpeted room with private bathroom, wooden ceiling, double bed and designer lamp.

Moreno’s residency is located at the Cavalry Police station in the north of Bogota where former Agriculture Minister Andres Felipe Arias is held while awaiting his own corruption trial.

The former Bogota mayor has to do with less than the former Agriculture Minister who was granted an apartment with a tropical hardwood floor and antique furniture.

Moreno allegedly accepted bribes in return of granting public works in the capital to befriended companies.
