Ivan Moreno to be tried in absentia

Colombia’s prosecutor general will initiate a disciplinary trial against Senator Ivan Moreno in his absence for his alleged involvement in soliciting bribes for public works contracts, Caracol Radio reported Monday.

Moreno has claimed medical reasons are the reason for his absence at these proceedings.

Moreno and other officials from Bogota are charged with awarding public works contracts for the TransMilenio bus system to the Nule Group in exchange for bribes.

Former Bogota Comptoller Miguel Moralesrussi was banned from holding public office for 20 years and will face criminal charges for his role in the case.

Ivan’s brother, Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno and Congressman German Olano are also being investigated in the case.
