International world jazz event begins in Bogota

The third Seasonal International University Jazz festival kicks off at the National University of Colombia in Bogota Tuesday and features concerts and workshops for jazz enthusiasts.

The event, which runs until June 24, hosts a week of lectures from experienced jazz musicians from the University of Vermont. Other events include a classical guitar workshop led by Nashville-based artist Carlos Castilla at the Bank of the Republic on June 20, followed by a big band workshop run by Maestro Dmytro Ryeznik with the Municipal Band of Manizales.

This year’s festival will also feature five concerts from international jazz groups like the Tennessee State University Jazz Combo Ensemble and the prestigious Julliard University Jazz Ensemble.

Tickets are available at the National University’s box office. The festival lineup can be found on newspaper La Patria’s website.
