Inspector General orders investigation into FARC attack

The Colombian Inspector General’s Office ordered an investigation into an attack Saturday in which 11 soldiers were killed and two wounded in an attack by the FARC.

Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez ordered the disciplinary investigation into the events which took place in the eastern department of Arauca, on the Venezuelan border.

“The object of the proceeding is to determine whether there was misconduct that could constitute a disciplinary offense and to identify potential offenders, pursuant to Article 166 of Act 836 of 2003, the Disciplinary System for the Armed Forces,” said a statement from the Inspector General’s Office.

The Inspector General is in charge of disciplinary investigations of public officials and has the authority to suspend officials or bar them from holding public office.

Saturday’s FARC attack was one of the deadliest of the past years.
