Indigenous won’t stop protesting until they talk with Uribe

The National Indigenous Organization of Colombia (ONIC) says
they will continue protesting until they had talks with President Uribe
about the promised return of stolen land, healthcare and safety.

Even though the army said it wouldn’t allow any more roadblocks and said it had taken control of the Panamerican highway, several thousand of indigenous continue to block roads in Cauca, Valle, Caldas, Risaralda, Chocó and Sucre.

The indigenous say the Colombian government has sold them “lies”. They say will not talk to any delegates, but will protest until they talked to teh Colombian President himself.

Clashes between riot police and protesters on the Panamerican highway in Cauca Tuesday left dozens of injured and at least one dead.

The indigenous have gathered with at least 12,000 to demand talks with the president for a few days already and took to blocking roads after no sound came from Bogotá.
