Images released of leaders of Colombian guerrilla group ELN

Images of members of the central command of the Colombian guerrilla group ELN were released Thursday.

The images show aliases “Pablo Beltran,” “Ramiro Vargas,” “Gabino” and “Antonio Garcia” standing together in a jungle. The photos are the most recent images of the ELN’s central command and were found on a laptop seized in a raid on July 4.

Also found in the computer were two documents, one a description of the meeting at which the photos were taken, and the other a strategy proposing an “attitude of dialogue” with Colombia’s largest guerrilla group, the FARC. The document suggested that relations had improved between the two groups.

The meeting description summarized the activities of the ELN front led by Dario Ramirez Castro, alias “Caliche,” who was also present at the meeting.

Allegedly, one of the documents also expressed concern about an outbreak of a contagious disease in the group, and another detailed the group’s cocaine production.

The ELN is the second largest guerrilla group in Colombia.
