Five alleged FARC members were sentenced to 30 years in prison Friday for the murder of three indigenous in the Caldas department last year.
According to the prosecution, the guerrillas entered the indigenous reserve Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria de la Montaña on October 6, 2008 and assassinated Mauricio Largo Bañol, Luz Marina Morales and Cesar de Jesus Largo Alarcon.
However, the National Indigenous Organization said last year the three victims were murdered by the paramilitary group ‘Aguilas Negras’. “Heavily armed men dressed in black with arm bands of the ‘Águilas
Negras’” entered an Emberá Chamí community outside the Riosucio
municipality in the department of Caldas, and killed three residents,”
the president of the regional indigenous council then told Spanish news agency.
But according to local media, the Prosecutor General’s Office identified and arrested the alleged FARC members Jose Euclides Alzate Gonzalez alias ‘Dario’ or ‘Colorado’, Fredys Antonio Benitez Perez alias ‘Dagoberto’ or ‘Machetazo’, Jean Carlos Murillo Benitez alias ‘Pipa’, Jose Reinel Taba Taba alias ‘Walter’ and Blanca Sonia Bueno Suarez as the murderers.
The guerrillas accepted the charges of crimes of homicide of a protected person, attempted homicide of a protected person, acts of terrorism and rebellion.
