The senator says Colombian President Álvaro Uribe, Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos and army chief Oscar Naranjo offered the money to “someone within the rebels secretariat or someone close to the secretariat to then make a violent strategy to rescue Ingrid Betancourt.”Córdoba feels “the country should know” about the government’s plans, because they threaten the life of hostages currently held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).Córdoba is currently being investigated for allegedly having friendly relations with the FARC, after she and Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez mediated the release of six FARC hostages earlier this year.
