Medellin girl survives 53 stab wounds

A 13-year-old Medellin girl has survived being stabbed 53 times with an unidentified sharp object on Tuesday.

The girl is currently hospitalized, unconscious and on a respirator, but in stable condition.

The stabbing took place in the barrio of Picacho, in northwestern Medellin.

The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon, when the eighth grade student was at home alone. Her mother had tried to call her on the telephone but nobody answered.

As it started to grow dark, the girl’s mother arrived home. The lights were off, and she entered the apartment, searching each room for her daughter. When she went into her daughter’s room, she found the badly injured girl lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

According to witness testimony, nobody heard any screams for help, probably because the room the attack took place in was located in the back of the building and faced an empty alley. There is no evidence that the perpetrators used force to enter the apartment. Investigations started by focusing on the girl’s boyfriend and her close friends, and the suspect is still at large.
