Garzon has ‘successful’ heart surgery

Doctors say that Colombia’s Vice President Angelino Garzon, who took office on Saturday, underwent a successful heart operation after he fell ill on Monday morning.

Following the operation, Garzon was taken to the intensive care department of the Shaio hospital in Bogota, where the newly sworn-in VP was operated upon.

President Juan Manuel Santos went to the hospital to be personally informed about the state of his vice president’s health.

Initially there was uncertainty whether the VP had suffered a heart attack or not, but according to hospital director Carlos Alberto Cardona, Garzon underwent the operation to prevent a possible heart attack
