Further delays at Bogota airport expected

Repair works of one runway of Bogota’s international airport El Dorado will cause further flight delays in the next week.

President of Avianca, Fabio Villegas, expects the most delays and complications in September. But the airlines and aviation authorities are taking measures to minimize the effects on passengers, Villegas told Caracol Radio Tuesday.

Despite the inconviences, Villegas believes it is very important to repair the runway and modernize the airport. “There is no other alternative. The terminal has fulfilled its purpose. If you want the airport to grow … you need a completely different building and terminal,” the president of Avianca said.

Villegas could not specify the exact flights delays but said the most delays take place in the afternoon or at night.
