French journalist injured, missing after FARC attack: Colombia

A French journalist has disappeared after he was injured in a deadly FARC attack on an army platoon the reporter was accompanying, Colombia’s defense minister said Sunday. According to France, the journalist was captured by guerrillas.

According to Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon, journalist Romeo Langlois was “hit by a bullet in the left arm, and under the tension and presssure of that moment … took the decision to take off his vest, his helmet, and by showing his was a civilian moved away from where the guerrillas were firing.”

In the attack that injured the Frenchman, four soldiers were killed and six were injured. Because of the having fighting, the troops lost track of the journalist. “We don’t know … what happened to him,” admitted Pinzon.

According to French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, “the journalist was taken prisoner” by the FARC.

The 35-year-old journalist was a correspondent for the French television network France 24 and working on a report on counternarcotics operations in the south of Colombia.
