Medellin adopted a new initiative on Friday that gives students free access to bicycles.
Deputy Director of the city’s Mobility Office Martha Suarez said the purpose of this initiative is so “the community overcomes fears about insecurity and vandalism with a more economical and ecological means of transport.”
Medellin joins other major cities in the world such as Paris, Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Washington, Rio de Janeiro, and Mexico city in adopting a city-wide bicycle system.
The initiative takes effect on Monday.
